The hardest part about taking off your wheels is the back wheel. That's usually because
there's a gear there, or a couple gears. I'll show you a quick and easy way to take off
your back wheel and then put it back on.
You can also flip your bike upside down and do this. I know that most people don't have
bicycle stands at home or on the street. Once again, you're going to take this lever on
your quick release and open it up. Further brake levers there might be a little pin you
have to pull out or a little cable. There's a couple different kinds.
The next thing you want to do is put your chain all the way down to the highest gear,
which is the smallest gear, the smallest cog. Shift it all the way down to the smallest
cog. Then you have your brake lever open. Then you can do the same thing you do with
the front. Just pull the quick release open, push the wheel out, and you'll see it kind
of rolls over the derailleur. If it doesn't roll over the derailleur, if it's a little
bit stuck, what you can do is give it a little hit on the top or you can pull your derailleur
back, like that. It's not going to hurt the derailleur as long as you're not flexing it
too much. Then you pull it out.
Now what you can do is put it back in by pressing on the back of the derailleur. See how it
opens up the chain nice and wide there? Make sure that it's shifted all the way down to
the highest gear, basically so there isn't any tension on this cable here. Put the chain
on that first gear. Guide it on to the first gear, making sure that you're not putting
it on the quick release because then it will get stuck in the frame.Pull it up completely
straight. Make sure that you do the same that you would do with the front. Nice and straight
in the actual frame. Then you can turn down the quick release and figure out where the
best spot is. Make sure it's tight enough, but not too tight.
Spin the wheel to make sure it is sitting properly in the frame. You can also spin the
pedals to make sure that it's on the proper gear or you can spin it back up to what gear
you had before so when you get on your bike it's not too hard to ride. Make sure you turn
the quick release for the brake back on and check it to make sure that it's stopping properly.
That's how to take off your wheels and also put them back on.
