He was kind of a big guy, and so we used to call his Gordo.
That was only when he was in a good mood.
One of the things he taught me was to listen,
and when you can really listen to somebody
you can get a read on what they're really feeling.
The average age of my crew on the ship was probably somewhere around 20, 21 years old.
The important thing for me is in shaping them is teaching them
those attributes I want them to value and them to mimic when they're dealing with their sailors.
And so it was very important to me to teach them how to listen.
We need a new generation of teachers to join those already in the classroom.
