It's election time - North Korean style. A nationwide poll to pick deputies for a new
five-year term serving on the 13th Supreme People's Assembly. Don't expect any shock
results. Do expect scenes of carefully orchestrated celebration rarely seen in votes in other
countries. All backed by a voiceover that makes Brazilian football commentators seem
rather restrained.
Everybody in the country seemingly taking part, including the world's most over-decorated
army with the world's tallest peaked caps. All under the watchful eyes of the Eternal
President and the Supreme Leader.
Before the normal people get their turn. Their faces glowing with excitement for an event
of little real significance. And topped off with hundreds of civilians 'spontaneously'
dancing in the street. And then the main man turns up to cast his vote. Kim Jong Un pops
into his local polling station at the university named after his grandpa in the capital Pyongyang.
Nominated as a candidate, in an election that will change nothing. Posing for photos as
he leaves. It's the first elections since Kim took power in December 2011 following
the death of his dad.
