Hello today
We are going to look at and may be over the next couple of videos
We are going to look at just who says that the original language of the new
Testament was actually Greek and so therefore to be able to
Read the word of God the new testament properly
You have to read it in the original language
And if the original language was Greek you would have to learn Greek wouldn't you?
But who just says this anyway?
I was saved in 1963
The people who witnessed this saving power of the Lord
Jesus Christ were part of a small Bible believing church
On the outskirts of Sydney New South Wales Australia
This local church was full of faith love and hope
We rejoiced in our salvation and we grew in love
And consideration of one another. We wanted the whole world to know
The power and the wonder of sins forgiven
We had a hunger for the word of God and we read
And we studied the King James Bible. This was not because of
Any conviction about the King James Bible as such but simply because
That was what was available. And then two things
Happened at about the same time. I was introduced
To the amplified new testament
And started to hear sermons using this edition of the Bible
I was only a young man at the time 20 years old
And fresh out of the UK and the public school education
System you know boarding school from five and a half years old
Education privileged education
I was filled with the classics but I love science subjects
My entrance into University College Oxford
To study geology had been laid aside to come out
And join my mother at the end of a long illness
Here in Australia. My parents had landed in Australia
After being in Malay and I came here and angry
Frustrated, but praise the Lord, in his grace
He saved me and landed me in this small congregation of good honest
Workers. I must admit that I resisted the move
To the amplified new testament
We used to read the scriptures in the meetings out aloud as a response
The leader of the meeting read a verse and then the whole congregation read the
Next verse together out loud and so on
And so we always read the Bible out loud in the meetings. Now that
We had to Bible versions we still read out loud but in turn
From the Bible that we had. So I kept
Reading my trusty King James Bible
There were certain aspects that I didn't like for instance the use of the terms sabbath
In the new testament and things like that in the amplified
Then change was that a preacher came in
And preached a message on charity and he said that the word meant
A social love. I struggled with this
I knew that it did not mean the act of helping people as our word
Charity does today. But was something special
And was described in detail in one Corinthians 13
Strong's concordance with Greek and Hebrew lexicons suggest the concept of
Social love and I immediately started to have
Troubles with that. Without knowing it
That at the time while using study tools like
Young's and strong's I was being introduced
To higher criticism of the text of the Bible
For years I prefer to stay in the simple wording
Of the King James Bible. As I got older I learnt more and more
Of what I would call the arrogance of the higher criticism of
Bible text
My brother who is now
A cannon in the Anglican church here in Australia
He said to me once oh Dan you wouldn't think much of this higher
Criticism business would you? And I sort of said no
I didn't and I don't suddenly the church
Starts to hear all about Greek originals
In fact so-called the
New testament was originally written in Greek in the same way that
Old testament was written in Hebrew
I must admit that for a while I enjoyed ploughing through a
A Strong's or a young's concordance and looking at the root meanings of all word
I even developed a few preaching themes
I have sort of sense abandoned and now because I don't want to give anybody the idea
They can simply look at a bit of a Lexicon
And decide you know what the word means particularly if it happens
To disagree with the King James. I thought
That this was interesting that the concept that the new testament
Was written in Greek and that old testament was written in Hebrew
Should be so indelibly written in ink
As though it were engraved on stone because
I couldn't find one single Scripture to support
This about the new testament this notion that the originals were written in Greek
After all they are
Of scriptures that clearly state that the Jews had the calling
Of keeping the old Testament and the old Testament words the language was Hebrew
The details told how they were to preserve these holy scriptures
Details given about how the Levites were to do this
The Lord God watches over them making certain that each
Generation had a pure copy of the written word of God
This goes on right up to the time of Jesus Christ
History tells us that instructions and details
Included even the details were given by the ton
Even the style of the ink the attitude of the copy and method to be used
All this is set forth in great detail
Not all of it within the Bible itself but with the
Historic tradition historic record
So where are any instructions about the copying of the new
Testament to be found. Where is
Single Scripture to say that the original language was Greek
The written word to be in Greek there is no such
Knows such as Bateman anywhere no such Scripture
There are plenty scriptures about what language is we use
Were used but not a single nation is entrusted
With the faithful guarding that the purity of the new testament scriptures
I find this interesting given the current friend
To go back to the original Greek text
The truth is that there is no original Greek text
So how can you go back there?
So where is the original text?
Original text residing you may ask
Look in the scriptures themselves
Well on the cross the with three well-known common languages
Nailed up Hebrew Latin and Greek nailed up
The people of Palestine spoke and Aramaic
As a common language and don't forget
The Greek of the day is called Koine Greek
Of which there is no there are knows speakers
Left or users left in the world today no one really knows
How to pronounce it in fact they really aren't any
Much in the way of writings or copyings of it
When I did the classics
Once I got into public school I sort of left the classics
Behind I've had enough of them but I did them pretty extensively
In primary it's called prep school actually
We did a form of Greek that was older
Than the new testament Greek. The Greek of the classics is that of the corrupt
Pagan writers who extolled the types of lifestyle forbidden
By the scriptures this Greek has absolutely nothing
To do with the scriptures and certainly was never used to contain any holy
Words of God I had a fearsome
Assistant headmaster used to teach us the classics and we used to have the read them
Out loud we learnt Latin which is a dead language
Not Italian Latin
The ancient Latin we learnt that we had to learn that
And we also did ancient Greek on the grounds that it would make us
I always had trouble with the morals of those Greek writers
Very much so so which Nason was entrusted
To keep in reserve the word of God
Can you find a single Scripture that will lead you to the right
In the right direction to be able to name a nation or a language that was used
To preserve the new testament no you can't
So then where was the word of God hidden
Or deposited for safety's sake
There is clear evidence from the scriptures Web God placed his word for safekeeping
I'll show you from the scriptures what are our God
Did to preserve his own word and keep it pure freaks generation
It is not the same principles
That we used in the old Testament so where did he put it
And will do this in another
Video praise the Lord and in the meantime keep
Rejoicing let's be glad that we do have a Bible we can trust
And that we have the written word of God
Because the word of God is what saves us hallelujah
Because our faith comes by reading
It and hearing it and glory to guide we are set free
By knowing it so let's keep rejoicing that
That we do have the word of God bless keep cheerful about that amen
Praise the Lord we are not left without the witness of the living word of God
And the two word of God amen
