Hello, my name is Helen and I'm since August in Vienna.
The things are so difficult for me also. Leaving Greece means better future and studies.
I did knocked a lot of doors in order to search a place to work.
Everyone said exact the same thing: In case of unknowing the german, we cannot
hire you. I did knocked also greek doors, greeks are not so strong in foreign
Countries are we thought they are. A myth was shot down from me.
Because the first thing greeks do when they travel in foreign countries to live there,
Is to find also greeks. Greeks which already live there many or a few years just to help
and guide. The older people couldn't try to help me
or youngest people inside friendship. The only thing was in the end of this circle
was the greek school, I'm waiting some results from there also.
All these have one result: Before leaving our country the first thing of knowing is
the best level we can reach in english, a very good level of latins (All universities
have the language in list of choosing a second lesson).
Perhaps Italian because some of them ask for it.
And finally the language of the country you want to go.
I can't register the country, I can't register M.E.A (Manpower Employment Agency).
Every country has offices in these cases. The register costs 55€ for citizen of Europa
in case of 4 moths of register. Otherwise it costs 255€.
I went to the main offices just to register, every kind of paper they asked for (áóöÜëéóç,
bank account) I did have all of them they also needed a kind of paper saying of "I'm
working or studying". Unfortunatly I cannot do anything of two of them because of low
level in my german. Even in M.E.A I couldn't register, I don't
know if the main reason was inexistent papers from the greek M.E.A.
Anyway, I'm looking everywhere any kind of job even the low level of my language.
Even we are in E.U and everyone knows english. In Summer I met a girl and she told me that
there is not necessary of knowing german or having any kind of experience for waitress
for example. Even that was shooting down. I'm not sure if the reason is the racism
or I have no confidence as much as the employers needs. The point is I'm looking for about
a month. In Vienna it's not so hard to find a job
in case of a good level in this language. I asked one of the employers: how is possible
for someone who doesn't know the language from the first day comes here. For example
someone who comes from Japan they probably have not a teacher for german or to go in
any country of E.U. They are jobs for students in Universities,
even there I'm looking (about 3-4 sites) it's kind of hard because they know I'm
not in high level and that has as a result the rejection.
So, yes! We must based on the knowledge of foreign languages. A big point.
So, do not make the same mistakes as I did. Before leaving the country think about it
hundred times. Do you have degrees? Even not having degrees,
are you in a very good level of the language? Latins are needed, because if someone wants
to have Admission Tests in university must know latins and nobody in Greece have told
us. Because I knew students in universities said
"it's a pitty I didn't learn latins in Greece"
Be based in foreign languages. English-Latins are the main. Coming Italic
and the language of the country you want to go live.
That's all. I hope the next time I will talk to you, I will have better news.
