[Kelly Brook] It’s just been growing every year, like every year
I can see like more and more people getting
in to it and understanding what it’s all about
and it’s just, it’s really good fun.
[music]
[Edith Bowman] I haven’t done a Sky Ride before
but you two have, I want to know what can I expect?
[Kelly] This is my fourth one. [Edith] Is it !?
[Kelly] Manchester is going to be my fourth Sky Ride. [Edith] Wow.
Yeah, it’s brilliant because you can bring all your mates down
and it’s for everyone really isn’t it, it’s a nice social day.
You get to see people like Gethin.
[Gethin] Yes and Kelly, and now Edith, bonus! [laughing]
See, I like the idea of it because it’s happening in so many cities
around the UK, of going to your favourite city and being able to cycle
around the city with no traffic, that’s a bonus.
[Gethin] That’s what everyone says when they get there.
[Edith] I cycle loads. I’ve got a bike in London and it’s
a girl’s bike. I like to call it, with a basket on
the front, very lady like, keeps my posture good.
[Gethin] So Sky Ride is a partnership between Sky and British Cycling
that’s over about five years,
and you know when Sir Chris Hoy won his gold medal in Beijing
all seemed to go a bit mental after that
and everyone was getting on their bikes
and I think on the back of that, this relationship’s really worked.
My first bike was called a Budgie.
The front tire was smaller than the back tire and I remember it had
three gears in the middle, it was hard
much harder and much much harder.
[Edith] For the kids it must be so exciting
because being in a massive group of people
taking part in something like this must be really exciting.
[Kelly] Yeah, and it’s safe as well, so if you do want to bring your kids down,
you know, you haven’t got to worry about traffic or anything.
Everywhere is cornered off, it’s very safe,
it’s just really social and fun.
[Edith] Learning to ride a bike in the car park of the hotel
that Mum and Dad had when I was a kid
and that idea of going from sort of stabilisers
to them coming off
and the stabiliser would be in your Dad’s hand
underneath the backseat
holding you as he almost kind of let you off into the wild.
It’s amazing, I love those memories.
[Edith] Take your time. [Gethin] No pressure. [Edith] Do it at your own pace.
[Kelly] Turn up when you want, have a little cycle around, wear what you want.
[Gethin] If you’ve got a little basket on your bike you can...
[Kelly] Do you have a basket on your bike Gethin?
[Gethin] No, but your basket is enough for everyone to enjoy. [laughing]
I do remember my first bike as a child
it was a pink Barbie bike, and I had stabilisers, I remember it being
a Christmas present, and I just remember kind of
being so excited, like when I woke up
because I asked for a bike for Christmas.
[Kelly] People even decorate their bikes, I saw like penny farthings
[Gethin] And music. [Kelly] Yeah music, It has a bit of a
festival kind of atmosphere to it doesn’t it?
I like the old vintage bikes with the baskets,
that way I can still wear a little dress and still keep it a bit stylish.
I think I always try and dress appropriately
and always wear, like high heels, which I get in so much trouble for.
This is my fourth year with Sky Ride, which I suppose in itself
just shows how much I love it.
When I see it in the diary, it always makes me think of the Summer
I know I’m going to be travelling all over the country meeting
different people and I’m going to be riding my bike as well.
I like cycling, I cycle in to work and stuff
but you don’t have to be a cycling professional
[Kelly] No, you don’t have to be a professional, that’s the whole point.
It’s for like, little kids, all ages, all abilities.
[Gethin] We say that a lot don’t we?
[music]
[Together] Everyone’s invited! [Gethin] Even Kelly! [laughing]
