Glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness around the world, but one study shows how
much improvement has been made and how much more improvement is needed. I'm Kendra Rowland
for the dailyRx News Network.
A new study showed that the rate of blindness in patients diagnosed with open-angle Glaucoma
was reduced by half in the past 30 years. However researchers note that this rate has
still remained too high. For more, here's Dr. Arthur Sit, associate professor of ophthalmology
at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine.
We did find a drop by nearly half the probability of going blind within 20 years diagnosis of
glaucoma. And then we also found that the population incidence, the number of people
in the population who actually go blind from glaucoma also decreased in that time frame
