This is Martin Shervington and I'd like to explain to you how to engage on
Google Plus. So you've got your profile up and running. You've added in some circles
you know how to post, but you want more engagement.
So
what is engagement?
Engagement means that people plus one your posts and you're plus one’ing theirs;
that you comment,
that you share,
that you chat, that you hangout,
that you email each other and all of these different things.
Now the first thing you have to do
is find people to do that with.
In order to find more people
we're going to press the ‘Home’ button.
And what you'll see
is content in the stream
which comes from two sources; one of which is your circles
and the other one is the ‘What's Hot and Recommended’ list.
And those two places will give you content that you may well be interested
in.
If you see somebody who looks interesting
you can click that link
and look at their profile.
and see what else that they have posted.
So this is their profile just like your
profile was the one that we were working on earlier.
So when you see something that you like,
you might decide to press the plus one button.
And if you like a little more, you might say “That is a awesome” or whatever you'd like.
And since this is the world's largest hedge
I might say
“Joanne,
have you ever been to...”
and the location was “...Perthshire”.
And ask her a question
And that's the way of engaging.
then I could press send. Now because I've plussed her name,
it means she gets a notification.
Let me just show you how to plus the name again.
Essentially all I do is do a plus sign
and then I start typing
and I can scroll down
and I can choose the person
I want to send a message to.
So you can use this on lots of different people's posts in the
comments
in order to draw people in and start having a conversation because as they receive the
notification
it's a way of letting them know that you want to engage with them.
And so they will then find where you've posted -
that link, their name. And they may well decide
to make a comment as well.
Next, I might like other people to see this hedge
and to do this, if you hover over next to the plus one button
there is a little arrow.
And this is ‘share this post’.
Whilst we're here, let's just have a quick look
as I dropped down here, and yet we can see already the three people have shared this post
from Joanne's share.
And 8 people have plus oned it.
This is a critical thing with Google plus for you to understand
let me just scrolled back up before share and we can see that Joanne
has her name here and she's made a comment.
And then below that it says “This is Great Britain”
and they were the ones that originally posted.
So actually Joanne has already shared this to her circles, or as it is in this
case to public.
Now what this means is that
when I share it on
it doesn't say anything about Joanne
it just says about This is Great Britain.
So now I can add my own comment
and just say “wow...
great...
...hedge”
but because Joanne was a person that I found this content through,
we do something with Google plus very often that is called a ‘hat tip’
And I just type
H/T
and then I will put Joanne's name there.
And that's just the way of showing respect
and an appreciation for the content.
Then I'm going to set to send it to ‘public’
and I'm going to press ‘share’
and what happens next is that that appears
on my profile page
just like it was on Joanne's profile page and you scroll down
and we find it there.
Now if I realize that this would be of interest for lots of people to find in
the future
I can actually go back in and I can edit the post. I can edit
and if I've made a spelling error, I can change that.
I also think that maybe
It would be of interest to
put some tags.
So I could go “Great Britain”
number one
and I could put “hedges”
number two.
I could do as many tags as I'd like.
This helps when people search those keywords for these
posts to appear.
Then I just press save and that's been edited.
And if I want to edit it again, I can do that as well.
Now, this post will go out into people's streams that have me in circles. And you see
here that there's a number of people that have circled me back.
Now, this is just my demo account. So I have a few more people than that that have
circled me back. But as you can see what happens is when you add in circles,
more people are going to circle you back that relate to you.
So when people so circle you back
they're going to receive your information when you send it out. I hope you found that
useful and if you'd like to subscribe to my YouTube channel you'll get many more
