Hi I'm Doug Yakel welcoming you to a new video series at SFO in each
episode will take you behind the scenes to find out about the events happening
around our airport and the people who make them happen
along the way we'll take you to some places that you may have never been to
before
this Inside SFO
in this episode will take a look at one of the largest projects happening at
SFO
the construction of a new air traffic control tower
after thirty years of use existing tower was in need of a placement in order to
meet the demands of future air traffic at SFO
architects came up with a design that was not only beautiful but functional as
well
with panoramic views from the top of the two hundred foot high structure
since the groundbreaking
event was held in July of 2012
construction crews have been making steady progress on the new tower
a major milestone was reached with the creation of a concrete foundation for
the new air traffic control tower
in one of the largest projects of its kind ever done it at SFO, crews worked
all night long to pour the concrete that would create the foundation for the new
air traffic control tower
when it was done
over fourteen hours of work occured with more than two hundred trucks delivering
concrete to this area
with a solid foundation in place the project continues to be on schedule
the structure itself to be completed in the fall of 2014
the FAA will then outfit the tower with state of the art equipment for a planned
opening in 2015
finished product will be bothe a high-tech wonder as well as an instantly
recognizable face for SFO in the future
that's a wrap for this episode thanks very much for watching and we look forward
to seeing you again in the next addition of Inside SFO
