YOLANDA VANVEEN: Hi, I'm Yolanda Vanveen on behalf of Expert Village. In this series,
we're learning all about fall-blooming flower bulbs, and every fall-blooming flower collection
has to include the Naked Ladies. They're a gorgeous plant from South Africa and they
call 'em Naked Ladies 'cause the greenery comes up in the summer then dies back, then
all of a sudden a big stalk comes up in the fall with the beautiful pink blooms that smell
like bubble gum that last for a month or two. They're just a beautiful plant. And the bulbs
are like in other Amaryllis plants and they multiply quickly. So when you plant 'em, you
make sure--like a Hershey's Kiss, the tip goes up and the fat side goes down, and they
like to be crowded. When you see 'em on the side of the freeway in California, there's
just mounds of 'em. So the best thing to do is get three or five and plant 'em almost
touching, and that way you'll get blooms the first year. They're just a beautiful plant,
Amaryllis Belladonna, also known as Naked Ladies, or Surprise Lily 'cause they come
up in the fall like a big surprise with the gorgeous pink blooms. Watch our next segment
as we talk about Red Hot Pokers.
