ArtsVibe is the first program of its kind in the country. It's a program that's specifically
aimed at making the arts more applicable and available to teenagers and young people. ArtsVibe
means a lot to me because it gives everybody in my generation the opportunity to have a
voice in the arts. This weekend has teens all over the Woodruff
Arts Center for free and we're making our art our way through ArtsVibe. Last night I
was in a Thoroughly Modern Millie group with eight other girls. We did the song "Forget
About the Boy" as a group number and we did tap-dancing as a group.
Today I'm in Day Two of our teen takeover, called Voices and Vibes. So far I've been
to an improv workshop and I also made a sugar skull in the High Museum of Art. It's important
that we develop and make arts accessible to young people and the teenagers of today because
they're the future. I believe the arts whether they're visual
or through what we're doing on stage, musicals or dramas -- they all have the power to send
a message and to inspire. And I believe it's just vital for the upcoming generation.
There are so many teenagers in Atlanta and we have so many resources at the Woodruff
Arts Center and it would not have been possible to put the two together without the generous
donation by Wells Fargo.
