If this is your first Diwali festival you may wonder what it's all about. You may have
heard of Diwali as the Festival of Lights. It is a Hindu festival in India that generally
lasts for five days. And while the stories and traditions are often unique to Diwali,
I think you'll find that many of the reasons for celebrating are common to all of us. Diwali
is by far the most enthusiastically enjoyed festival in India. People of different nationalities,
races, religions and backgrounds come together to share their joy, generating a feeling of brotherhood
and inter religious harmony. I'd like to take a moment and bring up a special guest we have
here today: Ms. Meena Yeggina who's the editor of India Parent magazine and would like to
share a few words with you.
Happy Diwali to all of you. I'm so proud to be here today. I've been to several places,
several schools, and I've never seen so much ambience, so much - ah, LOVE being spread
all over the place for Diwali. It's beautiful. Thank you for asking me to be here today.
The best part of being an editor of this magazine is to meet all of you - to go to places like
this. And I just love, love seeing this Indian festival being celebrated.
