let's start with the latest on where we stand on health care
doubt one of several questions is
uh... is the white house actually behind of the public option or are they
saying that we have the but in reality there now
pretty well we have more updates on that
does uh... of president obama of spoke up over the weekend about his true
intentions
now there's some good news and some bad news
first and dependencies of the work policies as well
i'd believe that we will have enough votes to pass not just any health care
bill but a good health care bill that helps american people reduce costs
action of the long-term controls our deficit
i'm confident that we've got that
he continues there are those in the republican party who think the best
thing to do just to kill reform
uh... that that will be good politics and it is of course that that that's not
now that sounds pretty good when i first read than i thought
all good iming he's saying look i i don't
if i just pass this thing
uh... for the sake of passing it has really helped me that's what we've been
saying cycle positive about that in you need even more specific
uh... he said port i have no interest in having a bill get past that fails that
doesn't work
uh... he sings on c_b_s_ sixty minutes
he said i'd tend to be present for awhile and was this bill passes by alone
if people look and say you know what this has introduced my costs
my premiums are still going out twenty five percent
insurance companies are still jerking me around on the one who's going to be held
responsible so i've every incentive to get this right now i read and i think
often
past the *** that he gets it you see if he passes something that is it mean
for the order doesn't bring our costs down
well he's got to pay the piper eventually
then i read
these quotes
not such good news
uh... pegged as the president had said quote the public action is only a means
to an end
and we should remain opened other ideas that accomplish our alternate goal
and then robert gibbs away in on television this weekend for the sunday
talk shows and said
but the president or
prefers the public option
however he said what's most important is choice and competition
it appears that in fact
are not intended for the public bit technically they would prefer i read it
but it is
exceedingly clear from those quotes
in my opinion
that they're not going to go in that direction today to go for co-ops or
uh...
uh... ordered the trigger for the public option is that i'm not only one who
thinks this uh... frank rich wrote a similar column an end
uh... bob rice for frank rich of course the new york times bob rice former labor
secretary
for bill clinton wrote something very good on at salon
and he broke down the specifics he said look it appears that
they're not going to go for the public option let me give you a quote from him
settle bombers was in a speech
reassure the democratic base of the president is deeply committed
this is getting universal coverage
the speech also made clear at the white house
has decided side with the senate finance committee
and against the democratic base on the details
the president was careful to note that a public option
is only a means to an end
animate open other ideas red
conrad's cooperatives as those trigger
the speech include including
nothing about medicare bargaining leverage
there by letting the drug deal stand
the president clearly side of the senate finance on the funding mechanisms
attacks or fee on high and insurance rather sur tax on the wealthy
has tried to explain their no surtax on the wealthy to pay for it doesn't we
gotta find it
way to pay for it in some way right
uh... and that and then of course insurance companies were dead-set
against that and hence their corporate minions that and the senate and en route
uh...
republicans and democrats including next august and conrad were guests at
the senate finance committee is against that
ahd no negotiations with the pharmaceutical companies and no public
option
so i i'm not the only one reading at this point but then we go to the
comments made
very silly by nancy pelosi and harry reid
now nancy pelosi up until
thursday of last week was very strong saying no
public option
uh... or nobel
and we had given her credit for that and i said well
slide you verify no credit because you know what democrats do they bought
so and here comes
nancy pelosi said on friday
this is about a gold it's not about provisions
uh...
legislation and the schools differently to those of course affordability and
accessibility and quality
then we will go forward with that uh...
in other words
supervision of the public auction is not necessary we will go forward with other
provisions if we think that it brings us some sort of choice or competition
wink wink
uh... now harry reid
he says the purpose of a public option is this
to create competition
which is so important and create quality health care sounds good so far
finishes up by saying
so if we can come over the concept of a cooperative that does just that
that is it makes
more competition that makes insurance companies honest yes i think that would
fill the bill
so
kent conrad's co-ops yes public option
that leads me to my questions
i got to ask you this before we go any further and i wanna ask ambiente very
gracious of the so i ask you guys
so i know which direction we should go
okay i got three questions for you and i wanna make them polls
uh... on the other church dot com so you could
do you mean it's ok and i have a sense of how you get statements
as i know a lot of people written comments in emails a setter
in both directions
but i want to get a sense of the numbers for ok so the first question is
has the white house
in your opinion already given up on the public
because it looks like to me that they have based on the sports and it looks
like the senate democrats
have given up on it is love let alone a civil osi
on and on the strings and all your emails from you guys and are taking
place in history
they say they preferred and wanted to midnight to fight for it
him a chance
so i wanted to one paul okay
that says
you answer me do you think that the white house
has already given up on the public reaction
let's move on the second question which is
shoot and this is probably the most important one
looked at the white house if do you think the white house is given up on it
and the senate democrats have given up on
she will bother continue to fight
now that's not a question i should be asking
action to come and tell you i want to know if i have a here no i don't get the
sound of it is right
but when we waste our time for a few deals are any cut
have reading follows you know bomb of already given how to change their minds
that there is a way there is a way annisten extremely difficult yesterday
but then a last week i have been cancel the public action
pass in about fifteen percent
now i have about five percent
the progressive caucus in the house would have to say
com hal or high water
you are not going to get our votes
if you put into health care reform package
that does not have a public option we both know and we kill the bill
okay
bagging it forty pervasive
caucus members do that
then ok then the public option might do it but they got to be real about
so is it worth fighting for what i think it's at five percent chance should we go
bother getting the progress of caucus should we try to swing the senate
democrats should we try to approach
harry done this and pressure money
so i wanna actual essential question
is it worth fighting and then
question number three is related to that
if we have a health care bill
but i promise is a little asl if we have a health care bill
uh... that does not have a public option
should the progressives actually vote no
or do you think hey you know what getting rid of pre-existing condition
causes
and recisions
and having more universal coverage uh... is worth it and yes insurance exchanges
don't really do much lower cost it appears knew the co-ops
edit you know private insurers loves them so you know you got it
uh... thank you know they think he did you make money off of it
the mandates are problematic
but overall it's better than nothing
and we're not going to win the full public russian fights away should vote
yes anyway
or you say no
this important if you came in on that you came in on everything else
them they should vote no one's
i'm very curious on those three so please vote on the poll
at the young turks dot com
and i wanna didn't get a sense of it and of course i'll report back
in a upcoming shows us the what the voting was they give a sense of the
audience what you guys but they're not just what i think
digging up the interaction
for the subscribe to what do you think
