In 2001 Bayer Pharmecutical Company developed a new birth control drug called Yasmin. In
2008 a competing drug called Ocella was released by Bayer Pharmecuticals, this is the generic
version of Yasmin or Yaz. The problem with these drugs is an ingredient, a hormone called
drospirenone. The ingredient in these drugs increases potassium levels in users. The problem
with high potassium levels can cause heart attacks, strokes, it can cause blood clots,
pulmonary embolisms and there are other side effects as well from these drugs, such as
gallbladder disease, hypertension, diabetes, DVT, cerebral hemorrhage and liver problems.
There is an increased risk with blood clots and cardiac problems with all birth control
pills, however there is data out there that shows Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella cause even a
