KATHMANDU, Dec 12: Lalitpur Handicraft Association (LHA) Nepal organized various events in the
capital on Thursday to commemorate the first Silver Jewelry Day with a theme 'Handcrafted
from Nepal'.
An exhibition-***-sale was held to promote handcrafted silver jewelry ornaments on the
occasion of 'Silver Jewelry Day 2013'. The event was held with the support of Deutsche
Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
According to the LHA, the event drew around 6,000 visitors. 25 stalls in the event featured
different types of silver jewelry products from 20 companies as well as work of five
jewelry organizations and associations.
Stalls provided information on various jewelry products and offered handcrafted silver jewelry
for sale. 'Live demonstrations'
of the process of making silver jewelry products were also held.
LHA President Deependra Shakya told Republica that
the event succeeded in bringing buyers, sellers, customers, designers, and various companies
and organizations working with silver jewelry under a single platform.
He said that foreigners, representatives of international organizations based in Nepal, and embassy officials also visited the stalls.
He said LHA had invited representatives from the embassies and international organizations
with the objective of promoting and marketing Nepal's handcrafted jewelry in the international market.
Likewise, an informative seminar was also held to discuss the problems, potential and
current scenario of the handcrafted jewelry business in the country.
According to Shakya, the seminar was organized to highlight the silver jewelry
sector to the concerned public and private sector actors.
A fashion and cultural show featuring new
designs in silver jewelry
products was
also held on the sidelines
of the expo.
LHA General Secretary Juni Bajra Bajracharya told Republica that
the fashion show
was held to showcase the various designs of the silver jewelry ornaments. "This helped
us provide exposure
to
the creativity of the designers
of these silver ornaments," he added.
