>> Welding is needed everywhere.
It is needed in good times and bad times.
You can always find work as a welder.
because there's, there's always something that either needs to be built or repaired.
Clark College students have worked at a variety of places.
We have a lot of students at Columbia Machine.
They're students at Thompson Metal Fab.
They've gone all over the United States from the training they receive
here at Clark.
>> A welder to be successful today needs a variety of qualities.
They not only obviously have to weld, but they have to be able to read a blue print.
They have to be able to hold a tolerance.
There is a lot that goes into welding and
fabrication of part that's more than just welding.

Welding has definitely gotten more technologically advanced.
Before we would use to cut parts by hand.
Now stuff is either being laser cut, water jet cut, plasma cut.
It's not enough just to be a welder anymore.
We work on a very kind of broad skill set.
So that if a student gets a job they can handle that job, they
have the tools they need to work through it and you know, impress their employer.
Students that finish our program are going to have a leg up on
other students as far as they have experienced not only welding but
fabrication and reading blueprints and assemblies.
Every student who finishes here is going to be proficient in Mig Welding whether it
will be with a hard wire or flux core, they will be proficient with Tig and
Stick and to complete the degree a student needs to have two welding certifications.
Which they can then use to help get a job out in the industry.
We're trying to make it to where the student is much more well-rounded so
they have a better edge when they try to get a job.
They'll not only test better for jobs but they'll be able to make money faster and,
and move up the ranks quicker.
And we can train you to be more than just a welder so
you have the opportunity with a skill set.
That you can move on to being a leadman or a foreman or
even potentially a supervisor.
Clark and the Welding Department is very committed to keeping with industry.
We have a Accupress Shear, which can shear up to five-eights steel, ten-foot long.
We have just purchased a, Accupress press brake.
We also have, tube bending equipment, pipe bending.
We got plate rolls, we got, shop press.
We have, quite a variety of, of fabrication and
welding equipment here at Clark.
You can expect to get, hands on training.
You'll get one on one training with the instructor.
It really doesn't matter if you're a first time welder or you've welded for years.
We handle all skill types and we welcome everybody with,
with a different skill type or a skill level here at Clark.
