How To Properly Unplug a USB Flash Drive article
Flash drives have become more, and more popular as their storage space steadily continues
to increase while the prices of flash drives continues to decrease. Flash drives are great
when you are away from your computer, or laptop, and you need to save something in a hurry. A normal
size flash drive is almost the size of a tube of lipstick, and can easily fit in your pocket
so that you can take them just about anywhere. Because they are so portable, people tend
to treat them more like a CD, than a portable hard drive, but they really are hard drives,
and should be disconnected from a computer with extreme care.
Many people just pull out their USB flash drives when they are ready to leave their
computer, without properly disconnecting the flash drive first. Pulling out a flash drive
before you properly shut it down can cause serious damage to your flash drive, and maybe
even the loss of the flash drive's valuable data. Before removing your flash drive...
Go to the bottom of your toolbar, and click on the icon with the green and white
checkmark.
After clicking on this icon, you will be shown a list of USB flash drives that are
connected. Choose the one that you wish to disconnect.
The computer or laptop will also inform you if you have any programs still running
from that flash drive.
Disconnecting your flash drive properly can save you from having to go through the hassle
of trying to recover damaged files that would have been fine if you had disconnected the
flash drive properly. Also, properly disconnecting your flash drive will help to keep your computer
system from crashing unexpectedly which sometimes happens when a computer attempts to access
a file or program that was still running when the flash drive was improperly disconnected.
