Now I'm going to show you how to decorate a side panel with napkin decoupage. Now the
side panels can be decorated in the same motif as the fun panel, or you can try some other
things to add almost like a scenery aspect to the puppet theater. Now I'm going to show
you how to use a napkin border to make a nice border for your scenery. And this napkin you
can see the border is a little bit larger that the board, so I'll show you how to cut
that off. We're going to cut it in quarters to make it easier to fit onto our board. And then we're going to trim the, the pattern
of the border for what we want to use on our panel. So I'm going to trim off this edge,
I only want to use this part of the border. So take all your napkins and cut, and trim
them exactly the same. And I don't want the center piece, so I'm also going to trim out
that center piece. Just cut them all the same, all quarters and then I'll show you how to
place them on our board. O.k., now I've cut out all my borders and I'll show you how to
make them fit even though their a little bit too big for this panel. So you want them to
fit exactly on the corners, so lay them out where their going to be here; and then we
will worry about where they join after. O.k... O.k., now where they join, when you decoupage
the paper becomes translucent and you'll see both designs. So you don't want to cut straight
in half, you might have a space in between. So we're going to have a little over lapping,
and you want to kind of cut in a sort of; not a, not a straight cut. Something that
will join the two designs if you really, if when you look at it they will be showing threw;
and then I'll cut a little bit off here and when they over lap they'll be just a little
bit of a softer joint there. Do that for all of your joints and then we'll glue it down.
O.k., another good thing about having the border cut in quarters is that it's a lot
easier to glue down if you can do it in sections. Before we start gluing down you want to remove
the backing off of the paper napkin. Now this napkin I've taken off one layer here and I
see that there is another layer. You want to get down to all the layers, sometimes that
last layer is stuck to there better. But you can see that there is another layer here,
so there we're; it was a three ply napkin. And you can see how translucent the piece
will look once you have that backing off. So just remove all the layers from the napkins.
You want to make sure that you get all the layers because if you don't it makes it a
little bit more difficult to glue down.
