Hi, my name is Colleen Kirby. I'm a criminal defense attorney with the law firm of Price
Benowitz.
One of the most commonly charged crimes that I see is drug possession.
Drug possession can be charged either as a felony or a misdemeanor.
Felony charges include manufacturing, possession with intent to distribute, and a wide variety
of other drug kingpin types of cases.
Usually, what we're going to see are what I say are simple possession.
When I say "simple possession," what I mean is possession of any type of drug - marijuana,
***, ***, *** - and there's no element that there was an intent to distribute it
or manufacture it.
Now please don't be mistaken by the word "simple," because it is obviously not a simple matter.
These can have serious and long-term consequences on your life. If you are to be facing these
charges and you are convicted, a conviction on your record will stay there permanently.
So if you find yourself charged with these types of cases, you're going to want to immediately
contact an aggressive criminal defense attorney.
The purpose in that is to try to have these charges dropped or mitigated to the point
where you can eventually have them dismissed or expunged off your record.
When I say "expunged," what that will do is have them completely removed from your record.
If you are not able to hire an attorney who is going to be aggressive in handling this
case, then these charges can stick with you and prevent you from applying to colleges,
from obtaining employment, and have other serious long-term affects.
It's extremely important that if you're charged with one of these crimes, that you immediately
contact a skilled and aggressive attorney to best represent you and protect your record
moving forward.
Call my office so that we may discuss the facts of your particular case and get started
on your defense right away.
