Guys of 'El Regimiento' have lent me the equipment today.
Very nice people.
If you're just begining as a reenactor
you should take a look at their website. And now cornet call.
Hello guripas. We're back after a little break.
Today we'll be like in a movie.
We've come to Monforte de Lemos, Lugo,
to take part in the first collaboration of reenactment with the railway museum of Galicia.
We'll see locomotives,
reenactment,
and this time I'm being promoted to corporal.
When you get in the museum the first you see is a Mikado locomotive.
And still working.
The museum is located in the former steam traction tank facilities.
A good place for reenactment
Today will be special
because we'll go back in time to 1944.
Besides an important collection of working locomotives and train cars
the museum has different rooms with period material and trains to scale.
Stay alert!
A lot of action is coming.
Hello, how are you? - What a nice uniform you have, which is your unit?
American infantry.
- You look very good. - First time I'm flattered thanks to my uniform.
This is Luis, director of the railway museum in Monforte.
How long have the museum been open?
Not a long time.
This all was made in a short time.
We were lucky because these facilities were out of order
but in a quite good condition for our museum.
As you can see this is a huge area, with a lot of space.
It's considered one of the best ones in Spain, in terms of facilities and preserved material.
After some years, you mix reenactment
with trains.
Well this is a natural mixture.
As cinema and literature are very connected to railways.
I could say a thousand films based on trains.
To sum up, this is going to be like shooting a film.
It will.
We're reenacting the military world
together with the railway world.
And here we can see the railway as it used to be. They still work.
Which pieces do you have here?
The most important pieces are from the three historical tracks:
Steam track, the electric one and diesel.
I am going to take a look at the exhibitions now
and you know what? I'm getting promoted.
Lucky you! You deserve it.
You'll be a good officer.
- No, I am just going to be a coporal! - You have to go step by step.
It's the same with trains.
To be a driver you must be a stoker first
and shovel a lot of coal. - That'd be great to begin as a general!
- Well, I will go for a walk. - See you.
People is visiting the museum from the morning.
They come to see such vehicles of the period.
American airborne forces against German troops will take part in the reenactment.
The battle will be later.
It will stage Germans trying to carry plundered pieces of art
and Allies attacking them to prevent it.
As it is said this will be like cinema
let's do a poll.
Let's see which is reenactors' favourite film.
There's a lot,
mainly cinema of war from 50's and 60's.
'Band of Brothers'. Although it's a series not a film.
Mainly because there's a lot of landscapes
and Americans are shown as a team.
When I was younger I was amazed by 'The Longest Day'.
A great production, a really long film.
My favourites are 'The Guns of Navarone'
and a current one, 'Saving Private Ryan', for its contents.
Later I was interested in films about the sea.
I think 'Das Boot'.
Because I like submarines.
'Torpedo Run', 'The Enemy Below'.
'Das Boot'.
The part in Gibraltar is one of my favourite scenes.
when they try to escape the English siege.
'Pearl Harbor'.
Mainly for its romantic treatment.
'Kelly's Heroes'.
They're hilarious, they're guripas.
And their final tribute to western movie.
I used to like western films as a child
I liked shots, so when I grew up
I got interested in cinema of war, for it's shoots.
I love war films, that's why I got interested in reenactment.
When I was young they used to call me 'Big Joe'.
It is worth watching these films for two reasons.
They're entertaining,
and we see things which shouldn't be repeated any more.
Captain, command attention.
Attention, squad!
Squad fall in!
Soldier Oscar, one step forward.
General Patton has commanded me to hand over these gallons to you
on behalf of your good behaviour. Congratulations.
While I recover from this excitement let's go on with the section 'Recruit, introduce yourself'.
Hello,
we're the group GERAF from Murcia and Madrid.
These are my mates.
We reenact 101st Airborne division
pathfinders in particular.
The first jumping.
It should be noted that we have been one of the first reenacting an unit of this kind.
There's a similar group in the North.
We try to attend all the events in Spain.
No matter which the location is. Our aim is to grow, to have more mates,
and reenact abroad some day, in France and UK.
The first event we attended was in Murcia
the event 'Murcia de cine',
where the operation Market Garden was reenacted.
With the participation of British and German units.
We're from Murcia so we would like
to invite you to come to this event every year.
We'll be glad to welcome you.
As reenactors can't bring their mothers, we have to be forewarned.
In this first aid bag I have thread and needle instead of bandages and sulphonamides.
Time to stitch.
So I'll leave you with your comments in our social networks in the meantime.
We thank you very much for your support.
Dani thinks we're helping reenactment's world.
In twitter they think the same.
Many of you have recommended people to follow us in Twitter.
We are grateful.
We would also like to stand out that you're watching us from far lands
like Argentina or Poland.
Each of your comments are helping us go on.
Thank you a lot, guripas.
I got my gallons stitched now, my mum must be proud.
Time to display them.
The audience waits for the beginning of the attack to the train.
- What an image. - Yes
- I guess it's great to take photos here. - Of course.
A good way of reenacting and reviving history.
You should get involved.
I'm thinking about it.
But only as press, with this heavy artillery.
What do you like the most?
Without doubt, the locomotive.
- How many pictures so far? - Around 2000 photos.
I'll have to select them later and what's more important
reconstruct them, make them look old.
So after taking a picture there's more work to do.
Of course.
There was no colour photography back then.
So you try to make photographs as of the period.
Mainly crack them, add some noise.
And it's great with all we've got here.
You just have to take the pictures home
and change it all.
I hope you take good pictures of the battle.
If I'm in one of them, can you send it to me?
- Of course. - Goodbye
I've put my helmet on and got in this M-8.
Let's go!
0:10:49.930,0:10:53.360 As this is like a film shooting,
let's show it in a more appropriate way.
With sound and image effects. It's starting!
That was it.
People like getting closer to talk and collect shells.
We're going for a train ride now.
Next week we'll be in Candamo, Asturias,
in its first Civil War conferences.
We'll try to preventing it falls into oblivion.
We'll see you in our website
and our Facebook and Twitter channels.
Dismissed!
