Well, a lot of people are asking me lately what's
safe to eat and what isn't safe to eat.
If you don't know the source of the food that
contains peanuts, don't eat it.
Just don't eat it until you can find out better
information.
And then the next thing I tell them is that we have
a website - www.fda.gov
that contains a lot of information about this
peanut outbreak of salmonella.
Particularly, it has a listing of all the
products that are currently under recall and
there are more than 400 products at this time.
If you have store brand, national brand - I'm
sorry, a national name brand peanut butter that
you've purchased at retail from a supermarket that is
safe.
We don't have concerns about that because we have
assurance from those major manufacturers that they do
not source any of their materials from the Peanut
Corporation of America.
If you are out and about, if you're in a restaurant
or going to a ball game or in a bar,
and there is peanuts being served,
ask where those peanuts came from.
If you don't know, don't eat them.
Caution is required I think on the part of all
consumers and the peanut products they're consuming
at least for the time being.
If you don't know the source,
don't consume them.
Look for those products on our website.
If they're on the recall list, dispose of them.
If they're not on the recall list contact the
manufacturer and if the manufacturer does not have
information, don't eat the products until you can
find out whether or not they may be one that is
under recall.
