I just saw the Firework video
And I saw Raise Your Glass.
What year is this?
2011 I think.
Oh ok!
So why’d they blur the boys’ faces?
Cause they got too close to each other?
OMG they kissed!
Good thing you channels rushed in to save society
from that disgusting sight!
No, I’m not kidding. I just want to know
why two kissing scenes were cut from two music videos.
What’s your reason for interfering in the work of these two artists?
What gives you the right to censor my kisses?
The prejudice we encounter from the time we realize who we are
is tragic and takes many forms.
One of them is exactly what you’re doing.
Two TV channels supposedly geared towards youth and young minds
I’m trying to discover my identity
and accept what makes me different from the rest.
And at the same time I’m struggling to create a friendly social environment
in my school, in my family and with my friends
Indeed, I’m very happy to see, as the culmination of my struggles,
two youth-oriented channels
censor two music videos
that speak primarily about this very thing!
About our acceptance, by ourselves, first and foremost.
You take the way that I express
my passion
my desire
my intimacy
my emotions
my love.
And you turn it into crap
by wiping out our kisses.
You, MTV, you’re famous for your censoring
from the time you went on air.
And you, MAD TV, you carry on about being tolerant!
(and so)
So when you pass the message to an already conservative society,
which nonetheless has made some strides,
that a kiss must be blurred. What are you saying?
“Society is not ready”
“The Broadcasting Council will fine us”
(puleeze!)
Broadcasting Council, let me remind you
of the Council of State’s decision
that nullified your fines.
This decision says that
not only can you not deprecate our kisses,
but that you must protect them as well!
Because if it weren’t for us
you’d have a totally straight – and boring - world.
I doubt we’re telling you something you don’t know.
Especially if you’re as socially aware as you’d have us believe.
I doubt that two homophobic TV channels
is the image you want to portray to your public.
I only think that you represent
a music industry that has always
been on the cutting edge in every issue
and has the power to change the way people think!
