Getting the family ready for a vacation can be trying,
but don't forget about preparing your home
to prevent water damage while out of town.
If a pipe leaks or bursts while you are away,
water can destroy carpets, furniture,
and even compromise the structural integrity
of your home or building.
So here are some tips
to help you put your mind at ease
while you are away.
Check the pipes under all the sinks
as well as your water heater for cracks and rust.
Inspect the hoses that connect to your washing machine,
dishwashers, and refrigerator ice-maker.
Replace any old or damaged hoses.
Clear all debris out of your rain gutters
and check for downspouts for any blockage.
If you have a sump pump,
check that it's in good condition as well.
Ask someone to check your house
periodically while you are gone.
Show them where the main water shutoff is located
in case a pipe leaks or bursts.
We strongly suggest turning off valves
to washers, sinks, and toilets.
We hope you have a safe holiday
and that you return to your home
exactly as you left it.
