Hi, this is Tom Kenaston. I'm a singer, pianist and composer. I live in West Palm Beach, Florida
and also New York City. In this clip we're going to talk about how to position yourself
at the piano. Well, it's really very easy. You want to position yourself at the center
of the piano. If you have arms and you can reach all the way out, you might start there
and then just bring them in and find where the center of the piano is. Generally there's
a word here, it's in the middle of that or these two little keys here are the center
of the piano. OK. I think you got that. The next thing you want to do is sit on the piano
bench, mostly forward. If you're sitting like this, and your feet are up off the ground,
that's going to be wrong. That's going to be bad. I can't even reach the piano. So you
want to come forward so that your little keister is right on the edge of the, of the bench.
You want to sit up straight, shoulders back, relaxed. Feet both on the floor and if you're
an advanced pianist or want to play with the peddles, you want to make sure your foot is
close enough that all you do is lift the front and use the peddle that way. Keeping your
heel on the floor. And your hands, you want to be able to keep them right in front of
you like this. So you're creating a line, a little right angle. From your shoulder down
and stretched out to the keyboard. That's really all there is to it. It's very simple.
This is Tom Kenaston and this has been how to position yourself at the piano.
