We will use rods ER80S-B2 3.2 mm
or 1/8" of diameter.
we make a preheat of 200º Celsius.
We use a digital thermometer
to see the temperature
and we control the temperature of interpass for a maximum of 300º C.
No spot welding is done within the groove,
use these "shimming"
to make the tack weld during the assembly of the pipes.
The beginning of the root pass
is the hardest moment.
You can start this way
supporting your middle finger here.
Do not look at the outside of the weld bead,
is in a position, that you see well, the inside of the root.
See now through the dark lens.
Note that the filler rod
is fed from behind of the weld bead.
See the inside of the root.
You can also start with the torch this way,
But it is harder and needs more training.
This position of the torch, facilitates the welder to see the inside of the the root.
Also note that the welder supports
(touch) the rod here the bevel,
as a point of support
o facilitate the feeding of the filler rod
In this position of the tube
use the torch positioned this way, 0:04:19.000,0:04:21.000 with the technique "walk the cup"
and see also that the filler rod
remains always supported on the bevel,
to facilitate the feeding of the filler rod
See here also through the lens dark.
See once again
the feeding of the filler rod by the inside of the pipe.
Do not let lack filler metal.
Now we remove one of "shimming"
Here after removing one of "shimming"
will be started, another amendment of the weld bead, of the root.
Note that the filler rod
continues all the time behind the weld bead
Here we have the closing of the pass root in the pipe.
Now, let's go the hot pass of the root, with 160 amps.
Here we have the root pass over.
The filler passes and cover pass will be done with the process
SMAW welding
If the welding with SMAW welding, is not started soon after the root pass
put those thermal blankets for the welding to cool slowly.
Tkank you for watching.
