Britney Spears is back in the dance studio, an indie flick
flirts with dance, and a BBOY HODOWN hits New York.
This is Just Dance for January 27, 2011.
And the nominations we have all been waiting for have
finally been announced.
That's right, this week the noms for the year's highly
competitive Oscar race were announced, and Black Swan kept
its award-season momentum with five nominations.
The psychological thriller was recognized technically for
Best Cinematography and Best Film Editing.
DanceOn favorites Darren Aronofsky and Natalie Portman
each earned an Academy Award nomination in their respective
categories, making them true leaders in the 2010 season.
Black Swan was also nominated in the prime Best Picture
category along with heavy hitters The Social Network,
True Grit, and this year's leader with 12 nominations,
The King's Speech.
Tune in to live telecast hosted by Anne Hathaway and
James Franco, Sunday, February 27 at 8/7 central on ABC.
Have you seen the film that won the prestigious Golden
Lion at the 2010 Venice Film Festival yet?
It's called Somewhere and follows a hard-living
Hollywood actor who reexamines his life after his 11-year-old
daughter surprises him with a visit.
Written and directed by Academy Award winner Sofia
Coppola, the Focus Feature stars Stephen Dorff and Elle
Fanning in two noteworthy the performances.
Somewhere contains four lengthy dance scenes which
were choreographed by Robin Conrad.
She may be a newcomer to the feature film world, but Robin
has worked on music videos for The White Stripes and the
Scissor Sisters.
Somewhere was a great platform for Conrad to show off her
choreographic talents, whether on stage or
on a stripper people.
Don't miss this heartwarming film now playing in theaters
nationwide.
Remember the song "Canned Heat" by Jamiroquai made
famous by Napoleon Dynamite's dynamite dance at
the end of the film?
Well, two Colorado fellows decided to pull the song out
of the archives and have created an
incredible dance video.
Set in a classroom, the piece stars Chris Martin and Larkin
Poynton busting a move to their own original
choreography.
Dressed as nerds, their skills are anything but dorky.
The two friends stand on one hand, wiggle their legs faster
than a chicken, and even do a back flip.

Next Saturday, February 5, hip hop and breakdancing are
invading Brooklyn as BBOY HODOWN presents the
preliminary round to select the US finalists to compete in
the world-famous Just Deboute competition in Paris.
The event serves as the place for young dancers to express
themselves positively while also nurturing talent and
launching careers in hip hop.
The prelims take place at the Brooklyn Lyceum, and doors
open at noon.
Registered dancers battle it out in any of five different
categories which include hip hop, house, locking, top rock
and popping.
The dance battles will begin at 2:00 PM and will go all
night long.
DanceOn is providing exclusive coverage of the dance battles.
So stay tuned for the footage of the hottest dance moves
from the event.

Britney Spears does not want anyone to hold her yearlong
hiatus from the industry against her.
And it doesn't seem like any of her fans are, as her newest
single, "Hold it Against Me" is blowing up.
Britney is busy shooting the music video for the tune this
week, and her choreographer, Brian Friedman, says that it
is the hardest dance track she has ever put out.
Friedman has choreographed world tours for Brit as well
as many of her music videos including "I'm a Slave 4 U"
and "Toxic."
So how well does Brian think the pop princess will be able
to handle his moves?
He says that "Hold it Against Me" is a true dance video and
that Britney is killing the routine.
We can't wait to see how Brian's hard work
turns out in the video.
To recap, you saw Black Swan nab more nominations and nerds
nab a classroom.
Be sure to tune in next week for an all-new episode of Just
Dance on DanceOn, the dance video network.
