Hi I’m Jill and on today’s episode of Artbooking Made Easy
I’m excited to show you some great techniques using the components
from the Nursery Layout Keys
found on pages 84 and 85 of the booklet.
Let’s start by looking at an overlay used in different ways.
On the booklet here you can see this overlay
there’s a bracket shape and then the bracket contained within a square,
both of those are on the key um on page 85,
and this is what those two overlays look like
if you've cut them at 11 inches.
You can see they make great frames or bases to a page.
Now what I did to make it just a little bit different
and add a new element to my page itself,
is I took those exact overlays
and I sized them down to two inches,
so I’ve simply set my real dial size to 2 inches
and cut the two different overlays multiple times
and then added them tone on tone to the background of my page.
So you can see it just adds a great element of detail
but you would never know that that was the overlay for the whole page.
On this layout over here you can see we’ve cut the overlay
out of Colonial White and then backed it with a Buttercup Cardstock.
So when you want to do that,
the simple way to do it is to cut your overlay at the size you want,
and then if you use Cricut Craft Room
and you put hide contour,
then it will cut the outside shape the same
and it will match your overlay but it won’t cut out all the detail,
it makes a perfect backing to any shape that you have.
So use that hide contour feature in Cricut Craft Room
when you want to do a project like that.
It will save you from having to cut around the overlay and it’s a perfect feature for this.
So I’ve used that overlay on both on the left hand page
as well as a half border on the right hand page.
And then I wanted to show you this cute banner right here.
So I’ve cut that out of craft paper and then
I’ve basically just taken scraps of colors of paper
to put behind the cut shapes on the banner itself
to add that dimension and pop.
So you can see we’ve added multiple colors
to tie it back into the layout that way.
And here we have this adorable layered owl.
You can see that there’s an owl here on this key
and it’s got the backing as well as all the detail pieces.
So I’ve simply cut the base of the owl in the craft paper
and then you can cut your accent pieces out
of any color you’d like and just layer it all together;
and on this finished piece on the layout
you can see we’ve sanded the edges and have done his eyes and his feet
and it just really brings a great detail to the layout itself.
Now another feature when you’re looking at a layout specific key
key is to think outside of making a scrapbook page itself,
maybe you’re a card maker or you just love the shapes that live on these keys,
just take them and change them into a card.
So here I’ve used that same overlay
and a fun feature is just by simply notching
out the top of the card to keep that shape,
and then again adding that owl.
We’ve also used the, the overlay from the first layout here that we showed;
so combine those elements and you’ll see that you can make beautiful projects
on 12 by 12 pages as well as your small cards.
When you sit down to get creative look at each element or shape on any key
and think of something you can do with it beyond the obvious design.
There’s already so many images
and when you find unique uses for the shapes
your artwork will be elevated to new heights.
