Optimism has played a huge and vital role
In, in my whole direction in life
[Music]
I mean I started out litereally in the streets and subways
I remember that first day
People dropped a couple bucks in my case
It was this huge moment of joy
Like, wow I, I could actually like
Pay my rent with this
If I didn't have that optimism
I probably would've quit because
There were periods of time when the growth stopped
So I think that's what optimism is for me
It's that sort of, that, that beacon in the night
[Music]
To lead me towards my destination
My older brothers slept up in the attic
I was one of twelve kids, huge family
So I would sneak up there and they had records
I remember putting the headphones on
And I put the needle down on "Frapmton Comes Alive"
And I heard those opening licks of "Do you feel like we do"
And the crowd, *applause noise*
And it just, it literally lit a fire
[Music]
There's like a *snaps fingers*
Spark in the room where there's
Like some transcendental event for me
Most nights I'm singin' there's that moment
When I open my eyes and I take my first look at the front row
And they're there with me
[Music]
There has to be a source of the joy
You know, 'cause it's gonna run out
If there's not a continuing source
And the source for me would be like
The fans, my family, my friends and the music
You know, it's like the universal language
Music is the ultimate unifying motivating force
I've got people from all walks of life
Old, young, left, right, gay, straight
You name it
But they're not talking about their differences
They're actually singing in harmony
Shoulder to shoulder
And this is the power of music
If there's one thing that I want
To accomplish with my music
That is to bring people together
Set aside the differences
And live
[Music]
