I've been an attorney since 1993, and things have gotten a lot tougher in the last two
decades when dealing with large insurance companies. They're in the business of taking
the premiums that you pay them and invest them on Wall Street, and they're all about
profits rather than paying a fair amount to settle an injury case.
I don't come from a family of doctors or lawyers. My dad grew up on a farm in rural South Dakota,
he had 13 sisters and two brothers. He was the first person in his family to even go
to college. When I was a teenager and in my early 20s, I had a lot of different jobs.
I worked as a short-order cook, I worked as a landscaper, I even worked in a bowling alley.
I feel like those jobs, which involved a lot of long hours have really helped me to connect
with people that hire me as their attorney, because I understand what it's like to be
hurt and not be able to go back to work.
I earned undergraduate degrees in economics and business management at North Carolina
State University, and I attended law school here in Atlanta at Emory University School
of Law.
While I was in law school, I decided I did not want to work for a large corporate law
firm or for an insurance company. I wanted to start my own practice, I wanted to work
with people here in the community. I'm very fortunate that my staff and I both really
like working on personal injury cases, we love what we do.
At the beginning of my legal career, it was a little bit of a struggle, I was starting
my own practice, I'd had to borrow all of the money I needed to go to law school, so
my wife and I actually lived on one salary for about three years while I paid off that
debt.
Fortunately, we started to achieve some success, I hired my first two employees, Debbie and
Janet, nearly twenty years ago and they're still with me today. They'd probably be a
little surprised and shocked to hear that in the beginning I actually had to borrow
money to pay them also! But fortunately, those days are far behind us.
In an injury case, it's important that you're represented by someone. The insurance company
is going to hire a defense lawyer, and they're going to hire a professional adjuster to evaluate
your claim. The job of those people is to pay you as little as possible on your injury
claim.
Studies have shown that people who hire an attorney receive as much as three and a half
times MORE money than people who try to represent themselves. This means that even after you
pay your lawyer, you're likely to end up with more money.
In a very serious injury case, I can't even imagine an insurance company paying a fair
settlement to someone who is not represented by an attorney.
We can't guarantee how much money anyone is going to get on their injury case, but what
I can tell you is that the majority of our cases and the majority of our clients are
referred to us by former clients who were very satisfied with how their case came out.
We would be very happy to speak with you at no charge, our consultations are free. We
would be honored to represent you. Please give us a call.
