The thoughts are, it's not been confirmed by Sony, it happens in two phases. There was
a whole group of people off to the side over here, and what they were doing they were trying
to do a denial of service. Denial of service means a lot of computers are really poking
at Sony and said okay, do this, do this, do this, really rapidly, which makes the system
bog down.
So the security professionals at Sony were concentrating their efforts on trying to get
rid of denial of services. And then perhaps it was coordinated, but perhaps somebody was
just taking advantage of the fortune there. On the other side, somebody wandered into
the Sony network and grabbed huge amounts of data.
So, we're looking at credit card fraud. We're looking at identity theft. On top of it, even
years down the road now that Sony has released email addresses, people are going to be susceptible
to phishing attacks. They're going to get fake emails from something that looks like
Sony. Hey, Sony user, why don't you just go over to this website over here.
You know, just enter your account information over here, and we'll give you a free game,
whatever that might be and that's going be a fake website.
