Connecting via TightVNC to the ARP VPS. Enter the hostname and the port number, separated by a colon, and press 'Connect.'
Enter the password specified in your ARP welcome mail (or whatever you've changed it to since then.) Press 'OK.'
In this example the VPS is just booting up. If you need to reboot yours, just send ctrl-alt-del, using the VNC option for this.
When prompted, press 'F12' for the boot menu.
Choose option 3 (CD-ROM). ARP have mounted a virtual CD containing the OS install disk (FreeBSD in this case).
At the 'Welcome to FreeBSD' screen, press 'enter' for the default - boot FreeBSD.
The system is booting up.
'Country Selection.' Select your country (here I chose '232 - United States') and press 'enter' to continue.
'sysinstall Main Menu.' Select 'Standard' and hit enter to continue.
'Message.' Read the message about disk partitioning and press 'enter' to continue.
'FDISK Partition Editor.' Type 'Q' to continue with the suggested partition layout.
'Install Boot Manager.' Select the 'Standard' boot manager and press 'enter' to continue.
'Message.' Read the message about creating more partitions and press 'enter' to continue.
'FreeBSD Disklabel Editor.' Press 'A' to create an auto layout and 'Q' to finish and continue.
'Choose Distributions.' Select item 'A' ('Minimal') and press 'enter' to continue.
'Choose Installation Media.' Select iten '1' ('FreeBSD CD/DVD') and press 'enter' to continue.
'Choose CD/DVD Type.' Select the CD/DVD you intend to use (here I select acd0) and press 'enter' to continue.
'User Confirmation Requested.' Read the message and, if you're ready to destroy all data on your existing VPS, select 'Yes' and press 'enter' to continue.
The installation proceeds. This part of the video has been sped up.
'Message.' read the message about final questions and how to re-run this setup later. press 'enter' to proceed.
'User Confirmation Requested.' Select 'Yes' and press 'enter' to signal that you will setup ethernet interfaces.
'User Confirmation Requested.' Select 'No' and press 'enter' to indicate you don't want to do any IPv6 config at this time.
'User Confirmation Requested.' Select 'No' and press 'enter' to forgo DHCP and manually configure a static IP address.
'Network Configuration.' Enter the hostname, domain, gateway, netmask, and (optionally) other ifconfig directives to configure your IPv4 address.
Highlight 'OK' and press 'enter' to continue.
'User Confirmation Requested.' Select 'Yes' and press 'enter' to bring the network interface up right now.
'User Confirmation Requested.' Select 'No' and press 'enter' to if you do not want the VPS to serve as a network gateway.
'User Confirmation Requested.' Select 'No' and press 'enter' to forgo additional inetd configuration.
'User Confirmation Requested.' Select 'Yes' and press 'enter' to enable the SSHd server on the VPS.
'User Confirmation Requested.' Select 'No' and press 'enter' to avoid setting up anonymous FTP.
'User Confirmation Requested.' Select 'No' and press 'enter' to avoid setting up the NFS client.
'User Confirmation Requested.' Select 'No' and press 'enter' to skip customizing the system console settings.
'User Confirmation Requested.' Select 'No' and press 'enter' to skip changing system time zone.
'User Confirmation Requested.' Select 'No' and press 'enter' to answer the question about whether this system has PS/2, serial, or bus mouse.
'User Confirmation Requested.' Select 'No' and press 'enter' to skip browsing the ports collection (can do that later).
'User Confirmation Requested.' Select 'Yes' and press 'enter' to add user accounts to the system.
'User and Group Management.' Select 'Add new user' and press 'enter.'
'Add a new user.' Enter the loginid, password, and other information *** appropriate for the account.
'User and Group Management.' Select 'X' to exit and press 'enter' when you're done creating users and groups.
'Message.' read the message about setting the root password and press 'enter' to continue.
You'll be prompted to enter your root password twice. Enter the same password both times!
'User Confirmation Requested.' Select 'No' and press 'enter' to skip setting "any last options."
'sysinstall Main Menu.' Select 'Exit Install' and press 'enter' to conclude post-installation setup.
'User Confirmation Requested.' Select 'Yes' and press 'enter' to exit setup and reboot the VPS.
'Message.' The installer warns you to remove media from the drive. That's not really possible in this case, so press 'enter' to agree and move on.
The system reboots (this part of the video is accelerated). You don't have to do anything here.
The system is now ready for its first use! You can SSH to it at the configured address.
