I wish I may I wish I might...
on the first start I see tonight
God I wish I belonged on the North Side
See the kids over there well they are cool
They got long hair, ripped jeans and they're breakin' rules
Just like Guns N Roses and Motley Crue ooh ooh
And of course there's that 5'8 stud Billy
The faint outline of a moustache drives me silly
He's in my Period 3 Social Studies
He signed my yearbook sooooo nice on page 78
And I know he'd be mine if I could just lose this weight
And then he'd "Pour some sugar on me"
I don't really know what that means
Like being in middle school wasn't hard enough
Having this weight problem well it's friggin' tough
What can I do to make them understand?
And see my not for my weight, but for who I am
See me not for my weight, but for who I am
Times were rough then and times were tight
I was wishing on every star of every night
And then my mom came in with a big surprise
She handed me this package and I opened it up
To this tassled jacket!
I knew with this I'd no longer be that plain old fat kid
Not anymore check this out! This jacket has tassles on it!
Mom always said it was like Dumbo's Magic Feather
With enough confidence, well you can do whatever
It's amazing what a little magic does
They saw me not for my weight, but for who I was
Saw me not for my weight, but for who
I was.
