in this video we'll take a look at how to create a pie chart
in SPSS and here we have the variable car color
where we have 15 different cars in this
data set and there's different colors a range from
one to five and if we click on our value labels but I'm here I did going into the
value labels
so you can see the different colors here white green
red blue and black consists of
five colors that we have in this small dataset
so to produce a pie chart in SPSS you wanna go to analyze
and then select legacy dialogues and then select pie
and then here we want to leave the default options summaries for Groups of
cases
in place so good select fine
and then we'll take our variable car color we're gonna move that to define
slices by
and you can think of slices as pieces a
the entire pieso a piece of the pie
to slice
and we wanna have the slices are the pieces represent
percentages cases so good select options
and then click OK
the output window opens our viewer window and here's our culture
she can see here we have five different slices are pieces
and are legend here are very well car color
shows the different colors that we have
and the first thing I see here when I look at this is
I don't really like how two different colors are represented by the default
options
where black is blue widescreen and so forth
that can be a little confusing so it would be nice to be able to change his
colors
to wear black is black here this is white
this is blue since it represents blue cars and so forth
so let's go and take a look at how to do that
the first thing we want to do is double click on the charger and that opens up
the chart
under Windows you can see here
now all changes colors in just a moment the let's first look at this little
button here
and notice it says show data labels and it also will show it down here
if you keep your eyes there when I hover over it again
sanders is a show data labels which could include on that option
and the notice how that puts the percentages inside the slices are the
pieces of the pie
and that's kinda nice for the reader to be able to see that Simon keep that
there
notice to the Properties window open and there's a lot of different tabs here
and when you serve these in this tutorial but I encourage you to explore
these on your own
to get and greater familiarity with how to modify charts and some
but let's take a look at a few things together here today Sooners here under
labels displayed
percent is in here already and that in fact why we see these personages
let's move this over car color and to see what happens
so my select car color and clicked as
a room it will move it up
and then I click apply
knows what happened you now have the labels are the actual colors are the car
as well
and that shown within its lights
looking at these slices though since we're going to change his colors in a
minute
I think I'll go to remove the labels here
the colors in the car so do that I'm going to select car color once again
and the national press X notice how that throws it back down here
and not like apply and now the freemen is a couple of other things they can do
here which I'll briefly show you
if we go to custom under label position
click on the custom radio button could select this option here
and then click Apply notice how through the personages to the
outside at the slices and I can actually click on
a percentage and drag you down a little bit
and you see how it extends outward more and it did thats all of them
units were option London actually go out and have those back inside here
so go to automatic under label position
and click Apply
and now we have those back he so let's go ahead
and change the color I've the different
I'm slices here
