>> [Background Music] She was called the Environmental First Lady. And for much of her life, Lady
Bird Johnson wore that label with passion, pioneering sustainability before it became
commonplace. Her legacy continues with the Wild Flower Center in Austin and it's partnership
with the nationwide landscaping project. >> The Sustainable Sites Initiative is an
effort that we helped launch about six years ago to bring the same kind of attention to
the creation of landscapes that the housing industry has brought through green building
programs where you're really just taking a product and making it better from an environmental
standpoint and in an economic standpoint. Our larger goal really is to sort of change
conventional thinking about how you design landscapes with or without buildings.
>> Currently, there are now 157 projects nationwide including one in Wimberley, Texas at a treasured
swimming spot called Blue Hole. >> Blue Hole, it was a cherished Texas commodity.
It was a just a really beloved place in Central Texas to a lot of people. Fortunately, the
city of Wimberley realized that in order for this to remain a beautiful place that has
some legacy in Central Texas, we needed to do something. So, it paired well with the
Sites program. >> It's a regional park which is testing really
how it's striking the balance between environmental ecological protection and recreation for site
users, so I think that will be very interesting and challenging as well.

>> We want to be at the lead of really transforming conventional thinking and conventional practices.
It is all about meeting the needs of people and the needs of nature that is positive to
everybody.
