Last year I went on two exchanges.
I went to the university in Copenhagen, Copenhagen Business School,
and then I went to the University of Guelph in Canada.
Last semester I went to Suny New Paltz
for six months which is in New York State, and I did that for a semester.
It's a big push of Curtin University to get as many students abroad as possible to get all
kinds of international experiences that they can do. Probably the most typical is students
going for an entire semester, so we call that study exchange. We've got a whole bunch of
exchange partners all over the world.
I suppose the best part about studying overseas is
I hope that I can use it for my future. So I'd really like to go into International Business.
I think it will add to my resume as well, so for future career prospects, just having another understanding
of how people work around the world.
The main thing I got out of it from study is because
I'm doing psychology, going to the multicultural capital of the world, which is New York, was amazing.
You get to see the different ways that people see different phenomenons.
Let's talk about how they've grown as a person. They're really kind of open up their
eyes to the world, seeing things from a different perspective so and coming back just a lot
more confident and we like to think job ready.
Studying overseas is way more than just studying,
you get to do some travel, you get to be very social like go out and meet people, so I'm
going on a trip next year where I'm just going back to meet everyone I met over there.
I met a bunch of cool new mates, travelled around the world, I went to America after, I went to Europe
for a bit, travelled around Canada, so packed in a lot in six months.
Certainly they do have all kinds of fun while they're abroad and that's definitely the point that they
grow as a person, they experience and try new things, that they've never done before.
They do have to be full time, while they're studying, yes and they do have to pass their
classes, but certainly that's the whole point of the experience, that students go and travel
and do all these independent things.
I would love to study overseas for the travel experience, the friendships you can make.
If you have any doubts, just do it.
Today we've gone to the information session. Got to speak to the students that have previously gone on
exchange and also the study abroad mentors.
I think the biggest thing I would recommend is to just
push for it. I got given that as advice when I started out.
So there's a few forms involved, there's some processes that students
have to go through, talking to their course coordinator,
making sure that it's approved for their study period abroad, but it's really not that hard,
students can get it done pretty quick.
What I would say to other students is just jump
in the deep end, like you will float, and you will be so much thankful
that you went and did it.
