Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, please join me in introducing my dad, the United
State Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan.
All right. Thank you. Thank you. Hey guys, how are you doing?
Good.
Good. Thanks for coming out. You're going to be--you're going to be with me?
Yes.
Come sit right here. I’m glad to see that we have a gorgeous, beautiful day out here
today, and we're going to read some good stories. Are you guys ready to read?
Yes.
This is my son Ryan and my daughter, Claire. I want to thank all of the employees for bringing
their children out today. We should do this every week. So every week this summer, we’ll
be out here reading, and this is part of the President's United We Serve Campaign. So all
summer, we're going to be reading books. We want to make sure we don’t have summer reading
loss. We're going to make sure we're learning throughout the school year. And so, every
one day a week, all summer long, we'll be out here. And I want to thank our sponsors,
Scholastic and Target for helping us out. Who can tell me the title of the first book
we're going to read. What is it, sweetie?
Where The Wild things are.
Where The Wild Things Are. Are you guys ready?
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
The night Max wore his wolf suit and made mischief of one kind and another his mother
called him "WILD THING!" And Max said, "I'll...?"
"Eat you up."
"...eat you up." So he was sent to bed without eating anything. "And now," cried Max, "Let
the wild rumpus start." Can you see they're all dancing and marching. But the wild things
cried, "Oh, please, don’t go. We’ll eat you up. We love you so." And Max said?
"No."
"No." The wild things roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth and
rolled their terrible...
Eyes.
And showed their terrible...
Claws.
But Max stepped into his private boat and waved...
Good-bye.
Good-bye. Thank you so much. How many of you guys have kept reading all summer long? And
how many of you guys have library cards? And go to the library to get some books this summer?
Yeah.
Super. All right, we have some--we have I think some surprises, some surprises for you
guys. Thanks for being such great listeners.
