>>Joe Bereta: Hey guys, I'm Joe Bereta.
>>Lee Newton: And I'm Lee Newton.
Joe: Welcome to SourceFed. This episode is brought to you by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
reminding you that drunk driving is stupid.
Don't do it!
Drunk driving crashes result in 10,000 deaths per year, so lets uh, not add to that statistic. Cool?
Lee: Cool.
Thank You!
Joe: Story Time!
Joe: Here’s a little bit of amazing to help brighten your day.
Lee: A little girl from Siberia, only 3 years
and 7 months old, survived 11 days, alone, in the Siberian wild.
Joe: Well, not technically alone. She was
accompanied by her puppy that ended up being her everything – her companion, her protector,
her blanket, and her savior.
Lee: Karina Chikitova wandered away from home when she attempted to follow her daddy who
was walking back to his native village to help fight vicious fires that plagued the
region.
Joe: Apparently, her mother was busy working the fields, and gram grams was tasked with
watching Karina, but like gram grams tend to do, gram gram went down for a little nap
nap, and that’s when, like little kids do, Karina attempted to follow her dad.
Lee: Mom comes home, says hey grandma, where’s
my child, and grandma assumes her father took her with him. Problem is, this is remote Siberia
and cell-phone reception is almost non-existent. So, mom can’t check with dad. Dad can’t
check with mom and it’s four days before they finally make contact and realize Karina
was alone in the wolf and bear infested wilderness.
Joe: Frightening. Terrifying. Worst nightmare level stuff here… but we’re talking about
a resourceful little lady and her faithful k-9 companion. Six kilometers from home, Karina
survived the days by locating and eating wild berries and sipping water from streams.
Lee: She survived the freezing nights by sleeping
in a bed she created in tall grass and cuddling with her dog, reaping the body heat, which
rescuers say is the only way they could imagine her getting through the cold temperatures.
Joe: And the heroic efforts of her pup don’t
end there my friends. According to reports, after 9 days, the family dog returned to the
village, where rescue efforts had been going on for days, and he went lassie on they butts,
and two days later, led the crew to her location. Which is a testament to the dog, and Karina,
cause she survived two nights on her own.
Lee: When they found her, she was conscious and for all intents and purposes, she was
fine. She was covered in mosquito bites and there were scratches on her feet, and she
only weighted ten kilograms, but dang it, she was alive. And now she’s recovering
at a local hospital.
Joe: Amazing story! Happy ending. Perfect. But that dog though. Lee, may I?
Lee: By all means.
Good Dog
Not just a stick fetcher, A sick, protector,
Tuff, scruffed mutt Keep you warmer than a thick wool sweater
A Dog gone guard dogian angel Prepared to tangle, mangle,
Latch a bear, right there, rip, tear and strangle. Not man’s best friend. A little girl’s
defender STAY with pride, LAY by her side, but refuse
To ROLLOVER and SIT idly by When fate conspires with the gods to end her.
So nick nack paddy whack, give that dog a bone,
No, give that dog the whole carcass, Let it dig holes and ditches,
Give it endless ear scratches and 1000 hot ***
Cause that dog, saved a girl, and brought her back home.
Good dog.
