My name is Bill Allen and I'm a mechanical design engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
I will lead a design team through the primary life cycle of a project. You know we design
from the top down, so that being we start with nothing. We have a lot of unknowns or
first guesses and as we go forward we add more detail and refine our design and update
our guesses and so forth. By the time you launch you have a finished product.
I am working on our next Mars rover, and I'm also working on a test program, and we want
to test new aides to help us land larger masses at Mars.
Being here 30 years, you know been here long enough to see change take place. I think JPL
is understanding enough to realize that the diversity of people in everything, the way
they think, the way they act, their background, their education creates an environment that's
not only healthy but very productive for solving problems. Being able to work with extraordinary
people doing extraordinary things. I can't imagine anything better.
