Hi. I’m Gerry Oginski. Come on in. I’m a New York medical malpractice and personal
injury trial attorney. Today’s video tip we look at an article in the New York Post
that says, “You can die waiting in New York hospitals.” Now what’s the purpose of
this particular article, which is February 15th, 2011? The purpose of the article is
nothing more than to scare the heck out of you, especially if you have to go to a hospital
in New York. What does it do? It basically tells you the time spent waiting in an emergency
room before you get seen and treated. Now, the shortest time in the country – according
to the study – was in Iowa where people waited only 175 minutes. And then came South
Dakota, then North Dakota, then Nebraska. Well, where does New York fit into all of
this? According to this study, New Yorkers had to wait 296 minutes on average in an emergency
room. Well, what the article doesn’t tell you is we’re not last. How do you like that?
Last is Utah, where you had to wait an average of 497 minutes to be treated in an emergency
room. Now what’s the whole purpose of this article? The purpose is really to just scare
the heck out of you. It doesn’t give the reader any useful information about how they’re
going to get different care or what hospital they should go to in New York. They did point
out because of a number of inter-city hospitals have closed, that they believe that explains
why there’s a longer wait time on average in some of the other hospitals in New York.
But that’s it. Otherwise, it gives no useful information that an injured person might benefit
from in learning about this particular study. And that’s it for today’s video. And by
the way, if you found this information useful, what I want you to do is to press the button
below here that says “Like.” You’ll find that if you’re watching in on YouTube
or on Facebook. Now why should you do that? Because this way all of your friends can now
get the benefit of this information as well. And if you have questions, I want you to pick
up the phone and call me. You can reach me at 516-487-8207 or by email at Gerry@Oginski-law.com.
I’m Gerry Oginski, here in New York. Thanks for watching.
