Last year Pakistan faced the worst
natural disaster in its history.
The devastating floods killed more than 2,000 people,
leaving a further 2 million homeless
and almost 20 million in desperate need
of humanitarian assistance.
The country's farmers were particularly hard hit,
as the waters washed away much of
Pakistan's vital agricultural infrastructure.
The disaster prompted the largest ever
United Nations appeal, raising over $750m.
Since the waters receded,
the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, FAO,
has been working with local communities
to help more than 10 million Pakistanis
rebuild their lives and their livelihoods.
Thanks to their continuing efforts,
people like Mohammad Yaar,
from the Muzaffargargh District,
can once again support themselves and their families.
Now we have work near our homes,
we have rebuilt our water channels
and we can feed our children,
we are in peace.
