Dr. Mitrev is a surgeon with vast experience in treatment of
various cardiovascular pathologies, which he has meticulously
documented by numerous methods of angiographic analysis, most
prominently by wonderful examples of CT angiography. His book
"Cardiovascular solutions" is a unique collection of various
diseases and their successful surgeries utilizing most modern
techniques, including hybrid treatment of some complex
pathologies. Substantial part of the book (78 pages) deals
with aortic diseases and their elegant surgical solutions,
like complex aortic dissections, reoperations and aortic
ruptures. His chapter about coronary artery disease and bypass
grafting (26 pages) gives a series of examples of modern
coronary surgery, including arterial revascularization, use of
both internal mammary arteries, and late follow-up of various
surgical solutions. Another substantial chapter (58 pages)
deals with author’s experience with carotid pathologies and
their surgical solutions, including rare cases of glomus
tumours, carotid aneurysms, cross-over grafts in the neck, and
vertebral revascularization. The last chapter about peripheral
vascular problems and their surgeries demonstrates author’s
wide spectrum of surgical knowledge, which is becoming
exceedingly rare in present era of subspecialisation in surgery.
Dr. Mitrev’s book can be highly recommended to serious student
of cardiovascular surgery, but also to the junior trainees and
students: excellent documentation of various interventions
gives a vivid picture of the possibilities of modern surgical
treatment of cardiovascular pathologies.
