With the number of homebuyers growing lately, the supply of available homes is naturally
shrinking. Thankfully, new home construction is booming nationwide to add more inventory
for buyers in the market.
...builders broke ground on 12 percent more homes than in November. Overall in 2012, there
was an increase of more than 28 percent in new home construction from the previous year.
We did see a 12 percent gain in housing starts this morning month on month. It's up 37 percent
year over year, so these are very strong numbers, and we do see further improvement in home
construction, home sales, and home prices this year.
There are more signs that the housing market is picking up. The government reported today
that construction was up more than 12 percent last month.
And as for the St. Louis area, a recent article in the St. Louis Business Journal shows that
home construction is rising here as well.
"Home building permits issued [on the Missouri side of the metro area] in December increased
58 percent, compared to the same month in 2011…"
