As the dust continues to settle on the worst customer information leak in Korea's history,
regulators say they'll make it mandatory for credit card companies to send payment statements
to customers via text message from the first half of this year.
The Financial Service Commission and the Financial Supervisory Service say the new system will
allow customers to quickly cancel payments or receive compensation if their card is used
by scammers. Around 70 percent of credit card users in
Korea currently use the text alarm service. In another measure, regulators say new customers
will be directed to sign up through a secure tablet PC at financial institutions,... so
their information is directly stored in the company's database.
The personal information of more than 20 million people in Korea was leaked in January.
