Hello , what are you doing ? Well My science teacher told us that we had
to do a project about Japanese Knot weed and I don't know anything about it!
Well lucky you Why?
Because I am an expert about Japanese Knot weed and it's harm to a ecosystem.
Really ? No.
oh... Just kidding!! I will be happy to help you!
YAY!! So..... What do you need to know?
Well I need to explain and relate how it effects the Lake Champlain Basin Watershed in Vermont
Where is Vermont? I don't know I think Its in Canada...
Well you probably need to find out. I will do that right now
well? It's in the United States...
oh Well any who... Knot weeds causes many damages in an ecosystem, like to the infrastructure
of buildings, damage to flood defense structures like riversides, and damage to archaeological
sites. It causes the reduction of the biodiversity by out-shading native vegetation our native
plants are lost or in danger because of this reduction. Growth speed is exponentially fast.
All that damage? But how does that effect Lake Champlain?
Well , it altered the natural characteristics of the Lake Champlain Basin's riparian zones
which is an area between the land and a body of water. Thus making spring flooding more
damaging. Oh bother. That's worrisome. How on earth
can we stop this? Very but luck for us there's a few ways to
stop Knot weed. Thank goodness!
But unfortunately they are expensive and require intense labor and the work can be easily undone.
For example You can bring in some of its natural enemy's but risk bring another invasive species
into an ecosystem. Or you can extract the plant and its roots but it is very time consuming.
How can a community help its local ecosystem and protect it from Japanese Knot weed?
Well as schools , clubs , or just for fun you can go on frequent hikes to areas lush
with Knot weed and extract it and dispose of it properly to reduce the spread of it
. This helped me a lot! Thank you
Any time If you need any more Information go to w w w dot l c b p dot o r g. You can
find out about more types of invasive plants and how to control them. Good luck Bye!
