I've always wanted to do West Side Story
since I came to work at the Hoskins Centre because it
has a special place in the world of the musical
it's considered to be just about the most complex and exciting
show you can do and I've done some
Great shows here over the last few years with some wonderful students
a great production team but I felt that
2014 I it was finally the time
to face the big one. The show at a cast of about ninety students
which is the biggest cast we've had here. 30 of those students are a very
special treble choir
and then we have sixty in the including
Andrew Knight as Tony who is going into year
10 next year and Dakotah Love from PLC
who is going into year 9 next year so we've got this fabulous
Cast I think that's one of the most exciting things about doing shows
with young people
We have a new friend on the scene Melissa killen
from O'Connor Catholic College who is an incredibly talented choreographer
so we've her in our midst
I really felt that we could attempt it because its got
so much dancing and so much fighting
that we are all choreographing togeather
Along with Amy Walsh who is also a gun
fight choreographer. So I really thought we had the team
I've been impressed by the
attitude and enthusiasm of the cast this term, they have gone completely out of their comfort zone
they're learning to dance learning to sing and dance at the same time
and they've just really taken it on the other lovely thing you can see
friendships really developing we have a mixed cast
4 schools different age groups and
that's one of the best things about doing a show at school is the
friendships you make
and so theres lots of action that happens on stage and there's also the social side and it great
to see everyone have such a great time together already
