Today on this 2008 Honda Odyssey with factory raised side rails we are going to be installing
a Thule Crossroads roof rack. We already have our
crossbar assemblies put together so we are ready to lay them on our
factory raised side rails and begin our installation. Before we begin tightening the front assembly
we need to check two things. We need to make sure that
our crossbar is overhanging evenly. We also need to make sure that
the crossbar is running perpendicular to our side rails. We set our Crossroad feet right
up against a seam where our side rails meet one of their mounting
points. We also need to check the Crossroad feet themselves. On
the side of the foot is a triangle indicating that that should be at the center line of
our vehicles factory raised side rails. Once we have ensured we
have everything positioned where we need it we can go ahead and
begin tightening it down. The endcaps of our Crossroad feet have an allen wrench built
in. This wrench is used to tighten the steel band with the rubber
coating around our factory raised side rails. Once we have our front
crossbar assembly secured we can go ahead and mount the second. 1:04
To make sure that the rear bar is parallel with the front we are going to measure our
crossbar spread that is from the center of the front bar to the center
of the rear bar. If this measurement is even on both sides we
know that our rear bar is running parallel with our front. Because this system is designed
to work with factory installed side rails there is no set crossbar
spread. However you may want to check with the instructions on
whatever accessories you may be using to see if you need to set up your crossbars at a
certain measurement. We will use the same tightening procedure in
the rear that we used in the front. Lastly we will check to see how
much height we have added to the vehicle. From the top of our factory side rails to
the top of the new crossbar we have added about 2-1/2 inches. And that
does it for the installation of our Thule Crossroad roof rack system
on our 2008 Honda Odyssey with factory raised side rails.
