This is when the magic starts to happen. The baby is in a period of
rapid, rapid growth. Their putting on a lot of weight. Things that we
watch for in the last trimester are late pregnancy complications if they
are going to have like diabetes, high blood pressure it's usually in the
last trimester, that's why we screen for it going into the last
trimester. We restrict travel, which is problematic for a lot of
patients because we are a very mobile society now, people think nothing
of wanting to hop on a plane. But at 28 weeks, again, if that creature
of labor is going to set in, you don't want to be in a strange town or
strange people with that going on. So we advise our patients not to
travel more than an hour or two away from the hospital or the doctors
office during their last trimester. The last month of pregnancy the
baby's putting on a half to a pound a week, so they're really, really
growing. Signs and symptoms of labor-a lot of women will feel Braxton
Hicks contractions anywhere from 32 to 34 weeks on. I can't really tell
you how to tell the difference between Braxton Hicks and real labor is
other than Braxton Hicks will settle down after a while if you rest. If
you lay on the side that your feeling the cramping and you hydrate
really well and it kind of slows down, then it's Braxton Hicks. Real
labor contractions start, they intensify, they become regular, they
become timeable. Typically it's nice if your water breaks because you
know for sure that's what it is, but most of the time that's not what
happens. You just start contracting and there's always, most practices,
have someone on call. If your not sure call in and they'll advise you
what to do
