Hello and welcome to 'hi5english'
your guide to teaching English as a Second Lanaguge to young and very young learners
and today we'll continue our talk about
how to practice vocabulary with young learners
I'm going to show you one activity
that I use very often in my classes
and it's called "Where is___?"
like in a question, "Where is (something)?"
here I have some flashcards
that are not the best in the world but good enough to work with
we have "ears", "nose" and "eyes"
and this is how the activity goes
right after you introduced all vocabulary to young children
and practiced this vocabulary with them
you line them up
and then you take two of those
let say, "nose" and "ears"
and you go like this
where is the nose?
and normally they point where they think this word is
so, they point and you say, "Yes!"
"ears"
they point at ears
then you can shuffle them
"nose"
they point at "nose"
and then you take another two
let say, "ears" and "eyes"
and you do the same thing
"Where are the eyes?"
"Where are the ears?", and stuff like that
then you take another two
could be "ears" and "nose"
"Where is the nose?"
"Where are the eyes?"
and you just keep going with this vocabulary
if you have any "target vocabulary"
it can be a new word that children don't know
they know "eyes" and "ears"
but they don't know "nose"
in this case, you should include "nose" in every single pair
that you practice
like "nose" and "ears"
then you put "ears" away and take "eyes"
and you do the same with "nose" and "eyes"
that's a very simple activity
children like it
they participate very actively
especially those who are between 2 and 3 years old
apparently they like pointing at thigns for some reason
well, that's it for today
thank you for watching
and if you have any comments
leave them in the section below
and I'll see you in a couple of days
in a new episode of 'hi5english'
