What do Catholics believe about Creation?
Did God really create all of this?
Science says one thing and faith seems to tell me something else.
Have you ever wondered why you're here or where you're going?
Why anything exists in the first place?
We've all asked ourselves those questions.
For us as believers, the answer comes down to the fact that God created the world
and that he created it as an extension of his beauty, truth, life and goodness.
And that he made the human person in his image and likeness
and so man and woman is the crown of Creation.
We are here to simply fall in love with God.
And to do here on earth what we hope to do forever in heaven,
and that is, to love God and to love one another.
So the world is this place...
this holy, beautiful, great sacred place that God has given us to live and move and have our being.
Many people get caught up in the question of "is Genesis literal?"
"Did God really make the world in six days?"
Genesis is not so much as a scientific text as it is a poetic, theological commentary
that speaks to us of greater truths, than those questions can ever capture.
Creation is good because God has willed it to be.
We are made in the image and likeness of God and that means that all of human life is sacred
from the moment of conception to the moment of natural death
and that we need to be concerned about that human ecology of the flourishing of each person.
That care extends to Creation as well.
And so we care about the environment, we care about pollution,
we want to extend that care of God to all of the creatures that he has made.
What we see in St. Francis of Assisi, is really that beauty of God's love for all of creation.
Francis could look at the sun, and the moon and the planets, and the world
and call them brother and sister, because we are all related in that web of life that God has made.
He saw it and it was good.
