Hello and welcome to QUEENIECHI SAYS COOK
today I'm making DELILAH'S DAILY DINNER and guess what...
...this is DELILAH. Say hello, Delilah!
have a little snooze till the action gets started.
Okay the ingredients are as follows:
One whole large chicken,
200 grams of wholemeal or brown rice,
I'm gonna use half a head of broccoli, chopped but not cooked.
3 large carrots and half a sweetheart cabbage
and one teaspoon of rapeseed oil for the essential fatty acids.
Okay, I'm gonna show you how I prepare the chicken.
Have a little press just here just to flatten out the chicken a little bit.
The reason being is we are going to cook it upside down.
So here our beautiful chicken is.
I'm just going to cut the elastic of string.
Remove that and the legs are tucked in nicely...
and I'm going to bring them apart.
So I'm going to cook it upside down.
Okay the reason we are cooking it upside down is so that all the juice and flavour goes...
...into the breast of the chicken.
It can actually be a little bit dry ...
although most people cook it the other way round...
...and you get a crispy top. But this is not for you, this is for your dog.
There will be no seasoning, no salt, no pepper,
...no nothing and especially no oil.
There is nothing needed on this chicken other than itself.
So I'm gonna pop this in the oven. This particular chicken will go in at 180 degrees in my electric fan oven...
...for 1 hour 50 minutes. But obviously you need to check...
...on your guidelines for when you cook your chicken...
...and the size of it.
Okay so let's go and pop it in the oven!!
Okay so we popped our chicken in the oven...
...and now we are going to cook the rice and the vegetables.
So firstly I'm going to pour the rice in.
and then I'm going to chop my carrots.
This is really basic for me, I just chop up the carrots quite large. and the dogs like to pick out the pieces...
...so don't worry about peeling or chopping ends off.
You can put the whole lot in and why not!
Alright there Delilah?
Okay, so we pop that in here.
Next we are going to do the sweetheart cabbage. We are just going to shred it up into small pieces like this.
There we go!
Okay I have measured in here 400ml of water...
...because we used 200 grams of rice.
I'm just just gonna pour it in and cover the vegetables.
Put my lid on.
I'm just going to put that on for a medium heat.
Usually what I do is I just put it on for the 20-25 minutes depending on what I'm doing...
...sometimes if I'm cooking a lot in advance...
....I'll cook it for about for about 20 minutes and then I just leave it and the steam does the rest.
I don't watch, I don't need to...
...I just leave that. That's going to do all the cooking for us.
So now we are just going to chop our broccoli...
...I'm just going right down the middle.
...and this is going in uncooked.
This is full of all the vitamins that they need.
Okay so there's our broccoli waiting to go in when this is cooked.
So I think I'll go and check on the chicken and see what is happening next.
Okay so my chicken has been taken out of the oven and it has actually cooled down now ready to handle.
As you can see, it doesn't look that exciting because it has been cooked upside down...
...but I'm just gonna show you what it looks like to when I turn it up the right way.
So it's flattened - because it's lovely and warm the meat is just going to fall off it.
So normally at this point what I would do is...
...pick the whole chicken off and just put it all in a box and leave it separately so...
....during the week I can just get chicken,
combine it with the veg...
...and then really it's just like opening a tin, isn't it.
How easy is that, you've got your chicken there, you've got your vegetables and your rice in there.
A spoon of that, a spoon of that, there you are - done!
So that's preparing for the week.
So here you can see I have a portion of chicken ready....
...and I'm just going to see my veggies are all cooked and ready...
...I'm doing this by eye because I can judge the amount that Delilah needs to eat.
We are just going to mix that in,
a bit of raw broccoli in there,
we do add a little bit of flat leave parsley for fresh breath.
And Voila, this the daily meal that my dogs have on a regular basis.
So It's Delilah's Daily Dinner.
As you can see the chicken's been chopped into fairly large pieces,
she doesn't want it to represent dog food,
she wants to actually chew...
...so come on then Delilah, let's have your dinner now.
Okay see you the next time, bye-bye.
